Rustico Opens This Weekend

Life just keeps getting better for local beer connoisseurs.

Just weeks after Birreria Paradiso opened, Rustico, the newest restaurant from the owners of Tallula, Vermilion and Evening Star Cafe, is expected to open for dinner on Saturday, bringing with it an impressive beer list of more than 250 selections, including 30 on tap and casks of ale. You can check out the draft list here.

Rustico's menu features pizzas, rotisserie meats and breads from a wood-burning oven, as well as the de rigueur cheese and meat boards. An appetizer of Rogue Chipotle Ale barbecue pork sandwiches (I'm presuming they are minis?) and an entree of mac and cheese carbonara with bacon, pancetta, peas and mushrooms have me intrigued.

Lunch service and a take-out operation will follow in the weeks to come.

I went to Rustico last night and it was sub par, to say the least. The beer list is impressive, however the food leaves something to be desired. My friend and I shared pizza and a burger. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium--it arrived nearly raw inside and burnt on the outside. The pizza wasn't much better. Although the dough and sauce were both decent, there was a very small amount of cheese (it only covered about 1/4 of the piece of pizza). I understand that it is a new restaurant and maybe they are still working the kinks out, but regardless, I was disappointed.

That's too bad the food didn't meet your expectations. Do you think you'll go back to give it another shot?
