Posto Opens

I'm somewhat irrationally excited that Posto opened over the weekend in the old Viridian space. You see, a lazy Logan resident cannot live on Cork, Bar Pilar and Great Wall Szechuan alone. Well, you can, very deliciously, but I'm excited to add a fourth spot into my regular neighborhood rotation.

Like its older sibling, downtown's Tosca, Posto also serves Italian fare, but both the menu and interior are much more casual.

I had a quick bite at the bar a few nights ago, and though I'm loathe to judge a restaurant in its infancy, the place shows real promise. A dish of creamy polenta topped with tomato sauce and sausage was a standout, and I'll be back soon to try the wood-fired pizza. Also on the menu: charcuterie and cheese, a selection of pastas, and a handful of meat entrees, including boar chops, which are also calling my name.

Posto offers about 24 wines by the glass, poured from an Enomatic wine system behind the bar, plus sparkling choices. The spacious room has been warmed up from the modern Viridian with a coat of cappuccino-colored paint, a long communal table by the bar and a large pizza oven.

Yep- can't wait for Policy and Birch&Barley either! It might be a few more months, but it'll be worth it.

Also, have you heard anything about "Elements", the new vegetarian concept?

I've already been to Posto as well, and I have one word: DELIZIOSO! (Delicious!) Posto serves great food in a great ambiance. The pizzas are truly authentic: plate-sized, with the perfect amount of ingredients and a great crust, just like it's done in Italy! So glad it's finally open!

I'm bidding a reluctant adieu to summer on this first day of fall and looking back with fond memories on one of the season's highlights — our Summer Salt Fest at the Gordy's Pickle Jar headquarters. Ever since opening Salt & Sundry three years ago, I've been dreaming of a down-home party that celebrates all things salty. STYLE } Bar Styling Tips with Framebridge

  I've always been noncommittal when it come to putting anything on my walls. Art? Photos? Prints? But what if I change my mind? Add the hassle of framing something and voila, a growing pile of unframed prints and photos gathers dust on a shelf. So I much appreciated a recent gentle nudge from friends at  Framebridge , a DC-based company that's making it easier and less expensive to get those pretty-if-neglected pieces framed and on display. We hung out at my place, whipped up some Green Hat gin and tonics, and I shared tips for stocking and styling your bar at home. (Any old table will do!) Hello Cupcake Opens

Cupcakes await the first customers at Hello Cupcake For a sweet spot in this final week of August, head to Hello Cupcake , which opens at 10 a.m. today at 1351 Connecticut Ave. NW. I had the chance to sample a few flavors with owner Penny Karas. The fluffy icing on the peanut butter blossom (above) is seriously addictive, and the seasonal root beer flavor is a delightful surprise with spicy root beer cake topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting.
