Po'boy Monday

Don't forget that some of the city's best chefs will be hawking po'boys today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during Acadiana's po'boy fundraiser. Head to 901 New York Ave. (just off Mount Vernon Square) and look for the crowds.

Acadiana made its debut at a lively party Saturday night in true Louisiana style with mint juleps, Pimm's cups and a rockin' zydeco band. Guests dined on boudin sausage balls, crawfish pies, Natchitoches meat pies with buttermilk dipping sauce, soft shell crabs, fried oysters, mini muffulettas and deviled eggs topped with caviar. For dessert, the big hits were mini beignets dusted with powdered sugar, spoonfuls of white chocolate bread pudding, and pecan pies that were devoured before I could grab one.

The attractive interior is sleek and contemporary with small touches, like dark wooden shutters and aged white statues, revaling the restaurant's Louisiana influence. The main room is subtly tiered, with an impressive glowing bar overlooking the sunken dining area by a few feet. Both modern and traditional chandeliers dangle over tables and plush banquettes. Richly colored murals of the swampy bayou dot the dining room and cover the wall of the spacious private-fuction room in the back.

After today's po'boy fundraiser, the restaurant will be gearing up for its first dinner service on Tuesday.

Just had my shrimp po'boy. Smooth, sweet, poached shrimp dressed in just enough mayo with lettuce and tomato on a baguette. Kind of plain until you pour the thoughtfully provided mini hot sauce bottle on it. Yum!

There was not a line at 11, but a few happy early lunchers and a couple of TV cameras on a bright, hot sidewalk.

Todd Gray of Equinox -- a volunteer -- was out on the sidewalk on his cell phone.

The information and links that you have given are great. In fact, I was searching for such information not to long ago. Since you obviously have more knowledge and experience in this area than I, do you know where the best place for a novice looking for more information would be? As any beginner who is venturing into this area knows, there is a lot of junk info out there. Finding a credible, reliable online resource in always a plus. Thankslamp shades
