Thomas Keller at the Watergate?

Warning: Completely unsubstantiated rumors ahead...

Could it be true? A San Franciso-based food blogger has sparked a rumor that Thomas Keller, of French Laundry, Per Se and Bouchon fame, might be opening a restaurant at D.C.'s own Watergate Hotel.

The rumor has been tossed around over at donrockwell.com, but there have been no solid sources identified. Rumor on the chat thread also claims that Keller was dining at CityZen last week, where his French Laundry protégé Eric Ziebold heads the kitchen. Read into that what you will...

If true, this would be the biggest restaurant news to hit our fair city in a while. D.C. is already poised to gain a few top-notch restaurants, with some of our best chefs, including Ris Lacoste and Michel Richard, branching out.

But there is no hard evidence at present to support this claim. If any pops up either way, I'll post it here.

Hey, even with the caveat, pretty nice dish, Amanda. Keller in DC would be quality, even if the prices are somewhat criminal. Then again, nothing new for the Watergate. :)

To my knowledge, the Watergate Hotel is going condo....I am almost positive of this and it will be within the next year or so.

STYLE } Bar Styling Tips with Framebridge

  I've always been noncommittal when it come to putting anything on my walls. Art? Photos? Prints? But what if I change my mind? Add the hassle of framing something and voila, a growing pile of unframed prints and photos gathers dust on a shelf. So I much appreciated a recent gentle nudge from friends at  Framebridge , a DC-based company that's making it easier and less expensive to get those pretty-if-neglected pieces framed and on display. We hung out at my place, whipped up some Green Hat gin and tonics, and I shared tips for stocking and styling your bar at home. (Any old table will do!) Hello Cupcake Opens

Cupcakes await the first customers at Hello Cupcake For a sweet spot in this final week of August, head to Hello Cupcake , which opens at 10 a.m. today at 1351 Connecticut Ave. NW. I had the chance to sample a few flavors with owner Penny Karas. The fluffy icing on the peanut butter blossom (above) is seriously addictive, and the seasonal root beer flavor is a delightful surprise with spicy root beer cake topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting.
