Coming Soon

A round-up of recent restaurant opening news:

BLT Steak
Chef Laurent Tourondel's BLT Steak is tentatively slated to open Nov. 13. The contemporary steakhouse will be located at 1625 I St. NW.

Circa
The Post.com's Going Out Gurus have the scoop on Circa, a new coffeeshop and restaurant expected to open at 1601 Connecticut Ave. NW in the former WrapWorks space. The Gurus report that Munehiro Mori, late of Asia Nora and Wolfgang Puck's Chinois, will serve as chef. A March opening is mentioned.

Mandu
Also from the Post, Tom Sietsema reports in his chat today that Mandu, the Korean restaurant replacing Mt. Everest (pictured) at 1805 18th St. NW, could open as early as Nov. 10. Check out this link for more details.

Buzz
Neighborhood Restaurant Group, the parent company of Evening Star Café, Vermilion, Tallula and Rustico, will open Buzz, a 35-seat bakery, coffee house and dessert lounge located at 901 Slaters Lane in Alexandria's Potomac Plaza. Pastry chef Lisa Scruggs will oversee the menu, which will offer cupcakes, housemade doughnuts, and pies and cakes in two sizes (eight inch and mini four inch). Also in the plans: “drinkable desserts,” including at least 20 wines by the glass, digestifs and after-dinner cocktails, and savory items like a brioche muffin filled with eggs, bacon and cheese. Hours will run from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Update: Buzz is slated to open Nov. 14.

Sticky Fingers
In other bakery news, the owners of the all-vegan Sticky Fingers Bakery plan to complete their move to a larger space at 1370 Park Rd. in Columbia Heights around the second week in November, reports the Washington Business Journal.

Do you (or anybody else) know anything about that new coffee shop that opened up on 14th & U right next to the drycleaners and that new basement record shop?

I went into the coffeeshop when they were semi-open during the Dog Days fest. They said they were calling it "14U" as in "one for you" I think. Tiny space, energetic owner. No coffee that day so I didn't get to try much.

Is the record shop you're talking about by Saint-Ex?

chef4cook: Glad you liked the pics!

imgoph: I'm not sure what the back story is on why Everest closed.

I've heard there's a coffee shop opening up around U that will be serving coffee from Intelligentsia, a great roaster from Chicago. If that's 14U, we could be in for a treat. Intelly's Black Cat espresso is delicious and no one in DC is serving it yet.

If there's anything this town needs, it's another steakhouse.

Hey Amanda,

I found a new pastry shop opening in the 1900 block of 9th Street, NW....I believe its called Chez Herez...the owner is the former pastry chef of the Ritz Carlton on M Street. Her name is Herez. See what scoop you can find...its opening in about 2 weeks....

Do you know if it's the same woman who opened Azi's, the coffeeshop on 9th? I remember her having some connection to the Ritz...
