Summer in a Bucket


Days like today make it painful to sit in front of a computer, with daydreams wandering to cocktails by the waterside.

One of the best spots for sipping and supping al fresco is Indigo Landing on Daingerfield Island, thanks to its spacious deck and outdoor bar (pictured) overlooking the water. To usher in summer, chef Bryan Moscatello will offer buckets of seafood (like fried oysters and clams), hushpuppies, shrimp corn dogs, fries and beers on ice starting in May. Prices for the buckets will range from $6 to $18.

You'll just need an excuse to leave the office early. Here's a whole list.

Sounds like he's been promoted to oversee the kitchens at both Indigo and Zola (which are owned by the same group).

It doesn't come as a surprise that he was promoted. Before he or they took over that place, it was terrible. Now it is my favorite spot. I can't wait to see what he can do at Zola, although I had always been a fan of the scene,decor and service, the food missed a few times.

It was made official with an announcement today that Bryan is now executive chef of Indigo, Zola and Spy City Cafe (all Star Restaurant Group).

I'm bidding a reluctant adieu to summer on this first day of fall and looking back with fond memories on one of the season's highlights — our Summer Salt Fest at the Gordy's Pickle Jar headquarters. STYLE } Bar Styling Tips with Framebridge

  I've always been noncommittal when it come to putting anything on my walls. Art? Photos? Prints? But what if I change my mind? Add the hassle of framing something and voila, a growing pile of unframed prints and photos gathers dust on a shelf. So I much appreciated a recent gentle nudge from friends at  Framebridge , a DC-based company that's making it easier and less expensive to get those pretty-if-neglected pieces framed and on display. We hung out at my place, whipped up some Green Hat gin and tonics, and I shared tips for stocking and styling your bar at home. (Any old table will do!) Hello Cupcake Opens

Cupcakes await the first customers at Hello Cupcake For a sweet spot in this final week of August, head to Hello Cupcake , which opens at 10 a.m. today at 1351 Connecticut Ave. NW. I had the chance to sample a few flavors with owner Penny Karas. The fluffy icing on the peanut butter blossom (above) is seriously addictive, and the seasonal root beer flavor is a delightful surprise with spicy root beer cake topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting.
