Second Agraria On The Way

It's been just more than a year since Agraria opened on Georgetown's waterfront, and Metrocurean recently heard that a second location is planned for 1900 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

According to the parent company's web site, the second outpost is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2008. An agreement was reached in April to lease the 8,750 square foot space. Initial plans for the farmer-backed restaurant concept called for five locations across the country.

The restaurant, which is owned by farmers, got off to a rocky start when the original chef left days before the opening. Ricky Moore, who has worked at Galileo, Vidalia and Equinox, was named chef a few weeks later and is still manning the kitchen.

Interesting! While the space itself was neat, I was not impressed with my meal at the waterfront Agragria when I went in Spring 2006. I should give it another try before discounting it altogether, but I'm surprised that the waterfront location has been successful enough to justify opening a second location somewhat nearby.

I'm bidding a reluctant adieu to summer on this first day of fall and looking back with fond memories on one of the season's highlights — our Summer Salt Fest at the Gordy's Pickle Jar headquarters. STYLE } Bar Styling Tips with Framebridge

  I've always been noncommittal when it come to putting anything on my walls. Art? Photos? Prints? But what if I change my mind? Add the hassle of framing something and voila, a growing pile of unframed prints and photos gathers dust on a shelf. So I much appreciated a recent gentle nudge from friends at  Framebridge , a DC-based company that's making it easier and less expensive to get those pretty-if-neglected pieces framed and on display. We hung out at my place, whipped up some Green Hat gin and tonics, and I shared tips for stocking and styling your bar at home. (Any old table will do!) Hello Cupcake Opens

Cupcakes await the first customers at Hello Cupcake For a sweet spot in this final week of August, head to Hello Cupcake , which opens at 10 a.m. today at 1351 Connecticut Ave. NW. I had the chance to sample a few flavors with owner Penny Karas. The fluffy icing on the peanut butter blossom (above) is seriously addictive, and the seasonal root beer flavor is a delightful surprise with spicy root beer cake topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting.
