Market Bounty: Dolcezza Gelato

The Georgetown gelato and coffee shop, Dolcezza, recently started selling its creamy gelato at the Penn Quarter FreshFarm Market, which runs through Nov. 15. And this Sunday, they'll join the line-up at the Dupont market, as well.

Dolcezza is selling half-pints and pints of flavors made with ingredients from area farmers. Among the seasonal choices: Keswick Creamery Ricotta, Blue Ridge Dairy Mascarpone, Toigo Orchards Bosc Pear Bourbon, Toigo Orchards Apple Cider Clove and Toigo Orchards Long Neck Pumpkin with ceylon cinnamon, Next Step Produce ginger, fresh grated nutmeg and brown sugar.

I saw them at the PQ farmer's market yesterday but thought it was (1) VERY expensive and (2) the wrong time of year to try to sell gelato. They should've been out there in the heat of the summer.

I like ice cream/gelato all year, especially when the flavors are seasonal. But you're right that they'd probably sell out on hot days - if they could keep the gleato frozen! They're new to the market so maybe they'll stay for the next summer season.

We hope we will be there for the next summer season, as well. These last 4 weeks at the market have gone very well, so...so far, so good!
