Shhh: Hush Indian Supper Club Launches

A new underground supper club has hit the scene, promising intimate evenings filled with vegetarian Indian cooking.

Hosted in a home a few blocks from U Street, Hush is the latest addition to a secretive class of unofficial eating establishments. These guerrilla restaurants, as some call them (makes them sound deliciously edgy, doesn't it?), have been popping up around the globe for several years now. Two years ago, a club of the same name was operating in DC (still out there?).

The new Hush hopes to add a little spice to your DC dining experience with organic, vegetarian Indian cooking from the state of Gujarat. "During the meal, we tell stories about the spices, origins/history of the food, and maybe even a song or two," writes Geeta, the cook, author and raconteur of Hush.

The club is taking reservations for Saturday, Feb. 6 and for two special "Single Hearts" dinners (that's for singles only!) over Valentine's Day weekend, Feb. 13 and 14.

No, that's why they're underground. It's kind of like your friend having you over for dinner and charging you for some of the groceries/food.

Have you seen any lists / compilations of these secret supper clubs in DC? I recently heard of the Secret Sushi Society (http://www.secretsushisociety.com/) and have been meaning to look into it.

Secret Supper in Annapolis last week. Theme was A Winter's Night in St Petersburg-caviar, vodka, the works!

Deep Table off H Street in NE. Tough as hell to get an invite. No facebook, no email, just a voicemail. Word of mouth, literally. The time I went, the food was prepared with a French flair. I was told, they do switch it up regularly.

I'm bidding a reluctant adieu to summer on this first day of fall and looking back with fond memories on one of the season's highlights — our Summer Salt Fest at the Gordy's Pickle Jar headquarters. STYLE } Bar Styling Tips with Framebridge

  I've always been noncommittal when it come to putting anything on my walls. Art? Photos? Prints? But what if I change my mind? Add the hassle of framing something and voila, a growing pile of unframed prints and photos gathers dust on a shelf. So I much appreciated a recent gentle nudge from friends at  Framebridge , a DC-based company that's making it easier and less expensive to get those pretty-if-neglected pieces framed and on display. We hung out at my place, whipped up some Green Hat gin and tonics, and I shared tips for stocking and styling your bar at home. (Any old table will do!) Hello Cupcake Opens

Cupcakes await the first customers at Hello Cupcake For a sweet spot in this final week of August, head to Hello Cupcake , which opens at 10 a.m. today at 1351 Connecticut Ave. NW. I had the chance to sample a few flavors with owner Penny Karas. The fluffy icing on the peanut butter blossom (above) is seriously addictive, and the seasonal root beer flavor is a delightful surprise with spicy root beer cake topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting.
