And Another One Gone

Butterfield 9 is closing. DonRockwell.com broke the news of the eight-year-old restaurant's demise, and Todd Kliman of Washingtonian fills in more details.

That brings the past week's toll to three announced closings: Restaurant K, Colorado Kitchen and now Butterfield 9. And I don't think that's the last we'll hear in the next few weeks ...

Yikes, with this economy I wonder if you should have a "recently closed" feature along side your "coming soon" and "newly opened" restaurant watch.

You know, I thought that same thing earlier today. It's a shame.

From a restaurant spokeswoman:

FYI, Michael Harr does not yet have arrangements set-up at another restaurant. He is from DC and hopes to keep cooking in the city.

Not too sure this is a bellweather. Some restaurants run their course, others lose leases, there are a lot of expense account dining rooms in this town. RE- B9, I wonder if we have just reached critical mass and this is just a fleshing out?

Anon - I agree with you. It's never fun when a string of places goes because people speculate on broader implications ... Lots of downtown dining rooms are looking plenty healthy, but I think that economic tough times can be the last string for places that are just getting by.
