Wednesday's Delicious Deal: Kinkead's, Urbana

Urbana's now shucking $1 oysters during happy hour.

Since I shorted you on a deal last week, I'm giving you a double dose to make up for it.

First up, Kinkead's has a new bar lunch menu offering a sandwich and soup combo for $12. Get a cup of chowder or soup of the day with a crispy cod sandwich with marinated summer tomatoes, cucumber and tartar sauce; grilled chicken sandwich with pancetta, tomatoes, arugula and pesto mayonnaise; roast pork Cuban sandwich with ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, lettuce and tomato; or crispy oyster po-boy with shredded lettuce, hot peppers and remoulade. Get it at the restaurant’s bar daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

At Urbana, a new raw bar is dishing up a daily selection of oysters, sweet Georgia prawns and whole Maine lobster. Hit it during the restaurant's two happy hours — daily from 5 to 7 p.m. and again Monday through Thursday from 10 to 11 p.m. — and oysters are $1 each. They're regularly $2 each or $16 per dozen.

I went by Kinkead's for the lunch deal and they aren't offering it during restaurant week. That would have been good to know, but thanks for the awesome tip!

ENTERTAIN } For The Love Of Salt

I'm bidding a reluctant adieu to summer on this first day of fall and looking back with fond memories on one of the season's highlights — our Summer Salt Fest at the Gordy's Pickle Jar headquarters. Ever since opening Salt & Sundry three years ago, I've been dreaming of a down-home party that celebrates all things salty. With the perfect partners in crime, Sarah and Sheila of Gordy's, and my phenomenal team at Salt & Sundry, we hosted a gathering of good friends and toasted our shared love of salt. The feast included fried chicken, boiled peanuts ( made by my husband !), Rappahannock' s Olde Salt oysters, deviled eggs topped with Gordy's Sweet Pepper Relish, and probably the best fried pickles I've ever eaten (yes, I've eaten a lot) ...
