Back in March, Metrocurean told you that plans were under way for a new 14th Street coffee shop. After a few delays, the wait for caffeination will end on Saturday when Mid City Caffé officially opens its doors.

The shop, located at 1626 14th St. NW above Miss Pixie's, seats about 35, and there will also be some sidewalk seating down below. They'll be serving Counter Culture Coffee, made fresh by either french press or pour over brewing method. There will also be espresso drinks, bagels, pastries, cookies, chocolates and sweets like sweet potato spice cake with cream cheese frosting. And free Wi-Fi. (Phew.)

Mid City Caffe will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Coffee brewed to order is different than fresh. In fact, there is no way to be sure of how fresh their coffee actually is, unless they can tell you with certainty which day the beans were roasted.

Alex, I'm pretty sure that with Counter Culture they may be able to tell you what time of the day it was roasted as well.

Let's call it fresh brewed then. And like Jayson said, Counter Culture is a great company, so the cafe has good material to start. And with a focus on brewing everything to order, I'm going to assume they won't be keeping the beans kicking around too long to ruin that effort.

A bit strange to me that "Alex K." would seem to know enough to question whether the beans are roast-dated... but doesn't seem to know that Counter Culture roast-dates all of their coffees (and was one of the first roasting companies to do so).

Can't wait to visit Mid City!

Sounds like a great addition to the restaurant scene but I do hope they consider expanding their hours. It would be nice to have a good late night food option on 14th.
